Cambria’s family moved frequently in her younger years, until finally putting down roots in Minnesota. So much travel inspired fantastic stories in her young mind involving gryphons, girls who grew up to be knights, and historical myths woven in with her own characters. Cambria studied abroad in Scotland during her undergraduate education, earned a BA in Literature, and completed her Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Nebraska. She served in the US Navy, proudly carrying on a family tradition that goes back generations. Following her service she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and is currently pursuing the dream of publishing her first book while raising two adorable kids with her husband, Andrew.
Cambria Engstrom earned her Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Her thesis wrestled with the relationship between a hero’s gender and the structure of a story. Drawing on her undergraduate degree in Literature, as well as a healthy appetite for fantasy fiction, Cambria dismissed the artificial associations between masculinity and Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey” as well as femininity and Hudson’s “Virgin’s Journey.”
